Following the three-hour annual Open Channels online public event on Thursday, July 8, 2021, this blog will feature a series of follow-up interviews with some of 58 artists, producers, scholars, students, and enthusiasts who participated in this wonderful “craziness”. “A craziness”, such as in a theatre show, a theater festival, ritual or performance with “improvisation” pieces as masterpieces, nerves and fellowship, as said by our interviewee metapanelist Daphné Menard, from Port-au-Prince, Haiti:
“The craziness comes from the fact that we are trying to connect, to create”
Clip #3:The “problematics” of finding a Caribbean artist training and education
Clip #4: The healing process of music and theater in Haiti and the Dominican Republic
Clip #5:The political and social circumstances of artists living in those countries
And, many other topics. He argues the importance of Multi-linguism in these activities, and the importance of the Meta-languages which erase “the borders of our minds.”
Also, Daphné explains his currently projects: the upcoming Festival Quatre Chemins (festival4chemins.com); the theatrical laboratory Rencontres de Creation Haitiano-Dominicaine; and, of course, his music.
Haitian metapanelist Daphne Menard’s interview brims with vital intelligence regarding the Open Channels experience and Popular Theater in the Caribbean Diaspora.
Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
