Taller Teatro del Caribe: Canales Abiertos, el 9 de julio 2020

Canales abiertos: Teatro Popular Caribeño en la encrucijada fue un encuentro virtual multilingüe en vivo de 3 horas para teatristas de todo el Caribe y su diáspora el 9 de julio del 2020. Durante este momento histórico en medio de una pandemia global y tanta incertidumbre e introspección buscamos explorar lo que significa para nosotros como artistas culturales y agentes para el cambio social.

Con herramientas digitales accesibles (email, Facebook, Google Drive, WhatsApp, jitsi) se juntó una diversidad de asesores-artistas de toda la región con ansias de compartir y dialogar a pesar de las limitaciones. Guiados por nuestra dedicación a la equidad y el concepto de SANKOFA (literalmente “regresar y recogerlo” o más bien “rescatar” del pueblo Akan de Ghana) organizamos un encuentro y lo producimos el 9 de julio, 2020, para un público amplio, racial, étnico y geográficamente diverso.

  • 94 persona inscritas, la mayoría de los EEUU (de 18 estados diferentes), Cuba, la República Dominicana y Puerto Rico. También de Argentina, México, Canada, Martinique, Brasil, Italia y Barbados entre otros.
  • Recibimos más de 23 videos de artistas y grupos teatrales
  • Se contaron 1329 aparatos electrónicos que sintonizaron a segmentos transmitidos del evento en vivo por Facebook live con un promedio de 17:47 minutos cada uno.

Este encuentro fue posible con el apoyo de CubaNola Arts Collective, el Instituto de Estudios Cubanos y del Caribe de la Universidad de Tulane, Grupo Teatral Macuba, College Unbound y Howlround Theater Commons.

    2020 Caribbean Theater Workshop: Open Channels July 9th, 2020

    Open Channels: Latin American Popular Theatre at the Crossroads was a live 3-hour multi-lingual online encounter held on July 9th, 2020 with theater practitioners from all over the Caribbean and its diaspora. At that historic moment during a global pandemic with so much uncertainty, we sought to explore what it means to be cultural artists and agents for social change. Using accessible digital tools (email, Facebook, Google Drive, WhatsApp, jitsi), we brought together a diversity of artist-advisors from all over the region with a desire to discuss and share despite our limitations. Guided by our dedication to equity and the concept of SANKOFA —from the Akan language of Ghana, literally meaning to “return” and “fetch”, or to “retrieve”—we organized and produced a meeting for a racial, ethnic and geographically diverse audience.

    • 94 officially registered: the majority from the United States (from 18 different states), Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, but, also from Argentina, México, Martinique, Brazil, Italy, Barbados.
    • We received more than 23 videos from theater groups and artists.
    • 1329 total unique views while on Facebook live with average watch time of: 17:47.
