El propósito de nuestro evento es un encuentro sin fronteras con el teatro del Caribe profundo y sus diásporas para reconocernos en nuestras diferencias y similitudes. Buscamos comprender el panorama actual de prácticas, documentación y difusión del teatro popular y de resistencia; reconocer las especificidades del contexto social, cultural, geográfico y político; identificar futuras oportunidades de intercambio y aprendizaje; y promover la noción de un Caribe transnacional más amplio.
La cultura popular tradicional y los saberes que ésta nos aporta nos han convertido en grupos de resistencia cultural, la mayoría invisibilizados por los círculos de poder hegemónicos. Como artistas y agentes para el cambio social en este momento, el objetivo es hacernos visibles y organizarnos para acciones que nos permitan conseguir unidad ante la guerra cultural que trata de borrar nuestra memoria histórica, nuestra cultura.
El Taller Teatro del Caribe: Canales Abiertos el jueves, 8 de julio 2021 a las 10am EST, fue el evento de clausura para el Taller de Teatro Popular: Rumbos de Teatro Caribeño 2021 convocado y coordinado por Estudio Teatral Macubá dentro del marco del Festival del Caribe: Fiesta de Fuego 2021 en Santiago de Cuba.
The purpose of this event is to criss‐cross boundaries, to share work, to dialogue, to strategize; and in so doing connect islands and diasporas by recognizing both our similarities and differences. We seek to explore the current landscape of practices, documentation, and dissemination of popular and resistance theater; recognize specificities of social, cultural, geographical and political context; identify future opportunities for exchange and learning; and promote the notion of a broader transnational Caribbean.
Traditional popular culture and the knowledge it affords has made us groups that create to resist erasure in the circles of hegemonic power. This is about making ourselves stronger and visible, joining our voices to be heard as we plan together a course of action in this battle against the forces that attempt to suppress our historic memory, our culture.
This year’s Open Channels: Caribbean Theater Workshop on Thursday, July 8th at 10am EST, was the closing event in Macubá Theater Group’s annual Popular Theater Workshop: Directions in Caribbean Theater as part of the Festival del Caribe: Fiesta de Fuego 2021 in Santiago de Cuba.
