Helen of the Caribbean

Your belly knows more than your head.

“Explain in a synthetic way what the hell I want to talk about in this piece: they let go of her hands. Look, sometimes, I want to take the reins of any revolution and produce some social change. And the lady fell on her ass into the sea. They said that blood attracts sharks, that it was her or us” narrates Helen Ceballos in her artistic video Hablar de la prole (Talk about the proletariat), presented at the 2021 Open Channels event.

Helen is an active Caribbean artist, producer, photographer and cultural manager, born in the Dominican Republic, she studied in Puerto Rico and Argentina. She has traveled and transited through various countries of the Caribbean Sea. She carries her art and her teachings in plays, lectures, performance, monologues, among many others.

She is currently in all her body and senses in the direction and curation of Mar de Islas: Caribbean performance meeting in Puerto Rico, which began this Sunday, November 21 and will last until Sunday, November 28. Artists from the vastness and diversity of the Caribbean participate in it.

The first shows the body as an island in an unstoppable tributary of water similar to the Caribbean: a living, dancing and sleeping body, subjected to its history and its forgetfulness, ready to merge with everything that the water surrounds and carries or to submerge until the appearance or not from other bodies. Everything under the eternal and sacred transit of the water.

The second shows the certainty of the fire towards illegal immigration, which consumes the scattered candles on the stage, synthesizing all the territories that the migrants cross, showing the common danger in all those territories, whether maritime or land: the burn. Helen creates and stages an archipelago of candles that, in full incandescence, transits and sometimes crushes. Likewise, the safety nets are shown, a product of the metal casting with the screams that enclose Helen. She ends up exhausted on the ground after trying to exceed the limits imposed.

Soon we will interview Helen Ceballos in this same place, so that she can tell us more about her work and artistic vision, as well as her experience as a Caribbean artist. She has been meta-panelist and advisor of Open Channels; enriching issue due to her great transit, stay in multiple places and scenarios, and great artistic career.

« Expliquez de manière synthétique de quoi diable je veux parler dans cette pièce : ils lui lâchent les mains. Écoutez, parfois, je veux prendre les rênes de toute révolution et produire un changement social. Et la dame lui est tombée dessus. cul dans la mer Ils ont dit que le sang attire les requins, que c’était elle ou nous », raconte Helen Ceballos dans sa vidéo artistique Hablar de la prole présentée lors de l’événement Open Channels 2021.

Helen est une artiste caribéenne active, productrice, photographe et gestionnaire culturelle, née en République dominicaine, a étudié à Porto Rico et en Argentine. Il a voyagé et transité par divers pays de la mer des Caraïbes. Il utilise son art et ses enseignements dans des pièces de théâtre, des conférences, des performances, des monologues, entre autres.

Il est actuellement en chair et en os à la direction et au commissariat de Mar de Islas : réunion de performances caribéennes à Porto Rico, qui a débuté ce dimanche 21 novembre et durera jusqu’au dimanche 28 novembre. Des artistes de l’immensité et de la diversité des Caraïbes y participent.

La première montre le corps comme une île dans un affluent d’eau imparable semblable aux Caraïbes : un corps vivant, dansant et endormi, soumis à son histoire et à son oubli, prêt à se fondre avec tout ce que l’eau entoure et porte ou à se submerger. .l’apparition ou non d’autres corps. Le tout sous le voyage éternel et sacré de l’eau.

La seconde montre la certitude du feu vers l’immigration clandestine, qui consume les bougies éparpillées sur la scène, synthétisant tous les territoires que traversent les migrants, montrant le danger commun à tous ces territoires, qu’ils soient maritimes ou terrestres : la brûlure. Helen crée et met en scène un archipel de bougies qui, en pleine incandescence, transite et, parfois, écrase. De même, les filets de sécurité sont montrés, un produit du casting hurlant qui entoure Helen. Elle se retrouve épuisée au sol après avoir tenté de dépasser les limites imposées.

Prochainement, nous interviewerons Helen Ceballos dans ce même espace afin qu’elle puisse nous en dire plus sur son travail et sa vision artistique, ainsi que sur son expérience d’artiste caribéenne. Elle a été méta-panéliste et conseillère sur les canaux ouverts ; enjeu enrichissant de par son trafic important, son séjour dans de multiples lieux, et sa grande carrière artistique.
