Las algas Sargazo han sido catalogadas como una terrible amenaza para el turismo en el Caribe. Por estar tan presentes y ser tan incontrolables, han sido comparadas con la pandemia del covid-19 que permanece hasta ahora [1]. No obstante, en sus circunstancias atemporales, el “mar de sargazos” [2] son los frutos que recorren el mar Atlántico nutriéndose de las vertientes que recorren y desembocan desde el sur de América y desde el norte de África. Son la evidencia histórica y natural de la unidad.
Lowell Fiet, fundador de la revista Sargasso [3], catedrático jubilado, desde Puerto Rico, en Vieques, lugar que en taino significa tierra pequeña, pero que tiene en su historia victorias pacificas contra la más grande maquinaria bélica del siglo XX e inicios del XXI, nos enseña parte de su experiencia en el ámbito del taller teatro mascaras en el ensayo titulado “¿Taller o teatro?: ¿quién es el actor? y ¿quién el espectador?” (2021) que escribió en la convocatoria para el plan de publicaciones de Canales Abiertos el presente año pandémico.
Mientras que en algunas partes paradisiacas del Caribe se intenta limpiar y dar soluciones contra los factores que favorecen el crecimiento del sargazo como los son la luz solar, el paso del tiempo, las 20 millones de toneladas del alga en medio del atlántico; aquí, adjuntamos el ensayo de Lowell Fiet para fortalecer la unidad y el conocimiento de los miembros de Canales Abiertos.

Sargasso algae have been listed as a terrible threat to tourism in the Caribbean. Because they are so present and so uncontrollable, they have been compared to the covid-19 pandemic that remains until now [1]. However, in its timeless circumstances, the “sea of sargassum” [2] are the fruits that run through the Atlantic Sea, feeding on the slopes that run through and flow from South America and North Africa. They are the historical and natural evidence of unity.
Lowell Fiet, founder of Sargasso [3] magazine, retired professor, from Puerto Rico, in Vieques, a place that in Taino means small land, but that has in its history peaceful victories against the greatest war machine of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, teaches us part of his experience in the field of the mask theater workshop in the essay entitled “Workshop or theater?: who is the actor? and who is the viewer?” (2021) that he wrote in the call for the Open Channels publication plan this pandemic year.
While in some paradisiacal parts of the Caribbean an attempt is made to clean and provide solutions against the factors that favor the growth of sargassum such as sunlight, the passage of time, the 20 million tons of algae in the middle of the Atlantic; here, we attach Lowell Fiet’s essay to strengthen the unity and knowledge of the members of Open Channels.

Les algues sargasses ont été répertoriées comme une terrible menace pour le tourisme dans les Caraïbes. Parce qu’elles sont si présentes et si incontrôlables, elles ont été comparées à la pandémie de covid-19 qui perdure jusqu’à présent [1]. Cependant, dans ses circonstances intemporelles, la “mer des sargasses” [2] sont les fruits qui traversent la mer Atlantique, se nourrissant des pentes qui traversent et coulent de l’Amérique du Sud et de l’Afrique du Nord. Ils sont la preuve historique et naturelle de l’unité.
Lowell Fiet, fondateur du magazine Sargasso [3], professeur à la retraite, de Porto Rico, à Vieques, un endroit qui en Taino signifie petite terre, mais qui a dans son histoire des victoires pacifiques contre la plus grande machine de guerre du XXe siècle et du début du 21, nous apprend une partie de son expérience dans le domaine de l’atelier de théâtre de masques dans l’essai intitulé « Atelier ou théâtre ? : qui est l’acteur ? et qui est le spectateur ? (2021) qu’il a écrit dans l’appel pour le plan de publication des canaux ouverts cette année pandémique.
Alors que dans certaines parties paradisiaques des Caraïbes, on tente de nettoyer et d’apporter des solutions contre les facteurs qui favorisent la croissance des sargasses tels que la lumière du soleil, le passage du temps, les 20 millions de tonnes d’algues au milieu de l’Atlantique ; ici, nous joignons l’essai de Lowell Fiet pour renforcer l’unité et la connaissance des membres d’Open Channels.
